Strong disciplinary development capabilities. The college achieved several key milestones in its academic development: it was approved to offer a master's program in Agricultural Products Processing Engineering in 1986, followed by China's first doctoral program in the same field in 1993. In 1998, it established one of the nation's first postdoctoral research stations in Food Science and Engineering, and in 2003, it was authorized to confer doctoral degrees under the first-level discipline of "Food Science and Engineering." The discipline has been consistently recognized as a key provincial priority from the 9th to the 11th Five-Year Plan periods, was selected as one of Jiangsu's first cultivation bases for national key disciplines, and was previously designated as a key discipline by the former Ministry of Machinery. In 2010, it was approved as one of Jiangsu's first provincial-level first-class key disciplines. It advanced to Category A in the fifth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education and ranked sixth globally in the 2023 Soft Science World-Class Disciplines ranking.
